The Dornier Do 31 is an experimental vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) jet-propelled transport designed and produced by West German aircraft manufacturer Dornier. It was one of the fascinating research types I watched develop in the 1960s. The Do 31 remains the only VTOL-capable jet-powered transport aircraft to ever fly. This example, one of three prototypes, is on display at Deutsches Museum Flugwerft Schleissheim, outside Munich. This thing has ten jet engines. I can't imagine you'd have much fuel left after a vertical take off, even without a load of cargo.
